Vitrinite Reflectance

Vitrinite is derived from woody tissues including roots, stems, bark and leaves; either with visible cellular structure intact or gelified. Direct measurement of vitrinite reflectance allows a non-destructive, objective data point for thermal maturity in a sample shale. Chemostrat Inc has teamed up with Charlie Landis to add organic petrography to our services portfolio.

Organic petrography can be performed on both cuttings and core material to generate the gollowing information:

  • Thermal maturity via vitrinite reflectance (%VRo) measurments

  • Characterization of organic macerals and organo-facies

  • Integration of thermal maturity and organic facies into basin models
